ABB Releases First Environmental Product Statement for Industrial Sensors

• ABB has set a new industry standard for information disclosure in industrial sensors by obtaining six Category III Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).

• EPD supports industrial enterprises in meeting ESG goals, regulatory requirements, and sustainable procurement standards.

• In 2025, ABB participated in the development of the EPD standard for industrial sensors.

ABB has taken the lead in the industry by awarding Category III Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification to six of its industrial sensors, further demonstrating the company’s long-term commitment to sustainability and disclosure.

An EPD is a standardized document based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study that provides detailed information about a product’s environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle. Unlike a Type II EPD (self-declaration), a Type III EPD is independently verified by a qualified assessment body.

EPDs are based on industry-specific rules, namely Product Category Rules (PCRs). In 2025, ABB participated in and led the development of supplemental Product Category Rules (c-PCRs) for the industrial sensor field, adapting the rules for the main category "Electrical and Electronic Equipment" to industrial sensors.

ABB's first batch of industrial sensor EPD certified products include: ABB PGS300 and PDS300 pressure transmitters, AquaMaster electromagnetic flowmeters, FSV450 vortex flowmeters, AWT420 universal four-wire transmitters, and TZIDC positioners. These sensors are crucial for operational efficiency and safety in industries such as chemical, oil and gas, water, and wastewater treatment.
