Schneider 140CPU67160C is Unity HSBY hot‑standby CPU module for Modicon Quantum platform. The suffix C stands for conformal‑coated version. The coated circuit board resists dust, moisture and corrosive gas for harsh industrial environments. It adopts PowerPC processor running at 266MHz, with built‑in 1024KB RAM including 512KB for program memory and 512KB for data memory. Program and file storage can be expanded via PCMCIA memory card.

It is rack‑slot mounted on Quantum backplane. Integrated MT‑RJ multimode fiber port is used for primary‑standby synchronization, maximum fiber transmission distance can reach 4km for bumpless switchover upon primary CPU failure. It is also equipped with RJ45 Ethernet, Modbus Plus, Modbus RS232/485 and USB commissioning ports. It works with Unity Pro programming software and complies with IEC61131‑3 programming standards. Powered by 5V DC from backplane, operating temperature ranges from ‑20℃ to 60℃. Front‑panel LED indicators show run, fault and communication status. Hot‑standby mode supports main cyclic tasks only, high‑speed interrupt tasks are not available. This CPU is deployed in high‑availability process control systems and works in pairs for PLC redundant hot‑standby control.

Once primary CPU suffers hardware fault or communication failure, standby CPU takes over full control logic without production interruption. It connects remote X80 and Quantum I/O racks to execute logic calculation, interlock and data acquisition for analog and digital signals, and transmit process data to HMI and DCS systems. Widely used in chemical, power generation, water treatment and metallurgy non‑stop critical processes. It is used for defective unit replacement and system maintenance retrofit to ensure continuous and stable operation of automation systems.
